Burglar System Helps Keep Family Safe

Too many times people wait to install a burglar system until their home has been violated and they suddenly realize that it could happen to them in their own neighborhood. To many, this is life locking the door after the chickens have left the coop and the wolf has had free reign in the barnyard. Their neighbors and friends however, may take it as a hint that it is time to do something to protect their own family.

Since the majority of home burglaries occur during the day when most people are at work, the odds of running into someone breaking into the house is minimal. That does not mean that crooks should have ready access and most them would prefer to not mess with a house that is alarmed, regardless of the potential payoff. While a barking dog may serve as a deterrent to some, others see a sign in the yard proclaiming the property is protected by an alarm and they are not willing to take the chance that the homeowner just planted a sign in the yard.

There is even a chance that moving on to the next house on the block will also be protected by a DYI home security system, but if there is nothing to indicate one exists, they are willing to take the chance. Many homeowners will caution would-be burglars that an alarm is installed by posting signs on door and windows in an attempt to thwart the break-in, as they would prefer to stop it before entry is gained as opposed to waiting until the door or window has been breached before sounding the alarm.

Most burglars will be scared off by the sound of a local audible alarm, not willing to take the gamble that the local siren means the police have not been called. With automatic dialers in common use today, no one is willing to wait around to see if law enforcement makes their presence known. While this may be a wild supposition on the part of many homeowners, it does have a positive impact on preventing home burglaries when no one is home. However, if the house is segregated from other houses and there are no nearby neighbors to report hearing an alarm, the burglar may take the chance and hang out for a while to see what happens.

Those living in areas where houses are close together can possibly get away with having only a local alert, but those living in isolated areas may want to consider having notification sent to a call center where operators can verify the alarm and then notify the authorities. This adds an extra layer of protection to the home, even when no one is in the house.

The burglar system offering perimeter protection can be activate during the night in the event someone tries to break in while the family is sleeping. The sound of a local alert should scare off any potential thief while rousing the family from their sleep to be on guard for a potential intruder.
