Home Camera Security Improves Home Safety

There are many homeowners that have an alarm system installed in their residence, but are reluctant to supplement the alarm with a home camera security system. As recently as a few years ago the prices for closed circuit television cameras made them out of reach for most average families, but the recent price reductions have made them very popular for small businesses and individual homeowners as well. Consider, a person can buy a four-camera home camera security system complete with door and window sensors and a black and white monitor for about $100, it is no wonder more people are adding them to their home security arsenal.

To most homeowners, installing a home camera security system in the home may seem logical if they have a lot of valuable possessions. However, the majority believe that having the cameras covering the outside of the home is more beneficial in preventing a break-in or a home invasion attack. They are wanting to stop the would-be thieves before they are able to breach the home's perimeter.

Having an exterior system or a home door security system connected can also be safer for the occupants. If they hear a noise outside, instead of opening the door to possibly come face-to-face with a burglar, they can look at the images on their monitor and if they see someone outside the home trying to get in, they can call the police for help. Most homeowners that opt for a home camera security system will place a camera near every entry door as well as by large windows in locations out of sight from the road or driveway. When burglars notice the presence of cameras, they generally head to another house where they are less likely to be identified.

Guidelines for installing home camera security systems are pretty simple. The cameras and associated wiring will need to be in weatherproof mounts if they are being used outdoors and the wires and the cameras will need to be out of reach so that those attempting to break in cannot reach them and disabled them. They should also be positioned to the face of the person attempting to break in can be seen before they get into the house as opposed to when they are walking way carrying the flat panel television and DVD player.

While some may believe that smaller is better and will hide miniature cameras in an attempt to catch someone who broke in and cleaned out their house, others are happier to make the presence of a home camera security system obvious, hoping the burglar will decide it is not worth the effort of trying to beat the system and risk getting caught. They believe it is better to scare them off than going through the process of prosecution.

Residents living in high crime areas may also be able to trim some money off of their home insurance premiums as many companies offer additional discounts for home security. Additionally, if an insurance company believes they may have a better chance of catching a perpetrator with the use of video, they are more likely to seek prosecution while handling your claim.
